Yes! Online therapy can be highly effective for children age 7 and up, especially when it’s done in a supportive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate way.

At Haven Mental Health Solutions, we provide virtual therapy for children across Michigan, and many families are surprised by how well kids adapt to the online format.

Children often feel more comfortable opening up when they’re in their own environment. Being at home can reduce anxiety and help them feel safe enough to express emotions they might otherwise hold in.

Some signs your kid might benefit from therapy include:

  • Increased anxiety or frequent worries

  • Emotional outbursts or difficulty regulating emotions

  • Withdrawal or changes in behavior

  • Struggles at school or with peers

  • Not wanting to go to school

  • Tummy aches or frequent complaints of illness/pain that have no obvious cause (def. take them to the doctor to be safe, but sometimes these complaints are more emotional!)

Danielle Anderson, LLMSW, has extensive experience working with children and families through her background as a school social worker. She supports kids in building emotional regulation skills, coping strategies, and confidence in a way that feels approachable and safe.

Therapy for kids isn’t about labeling them—it’s about helping them understand their emotions and giving them tools to navigate challenges early on.

We offer virtual sessions for children age 7+ and accept several insurance plans, making therapy more accessible for families.

If you’re wondering whether therapy could help your child, it’s okay to explore that.

Despite 1 in 5 children having a mental health disorder, only about 20% of this population receives care from a specialized mental health provider. It's totally okay if your kid needs support. We're here to help!
